Grandma knew that drinking cranberry juice was a good way to get rid of a bladder infection but you probably really couldn't tell you why that was. The truth is that cranberries helped to reduce the power of some bacteria (E. coli) which penetrate the walls of the bladder and therefore eating cranberries are drinking whatever you choose can be very effective in fighting off urinary tract infections (UTIs).
In many year at every tract infections, the E. coli bacteria that causes it has these little hairy tips which are called P fimbria which they use to attach to the bladder allowing them to multiply which causes the infection. The cranberries contain proanthocyanidins then bind to the P fimbria and cause them to be unable to stick to the walls of the blotter. As a result, the bacteria is simply flushed out in the urine instead of clinging to the bladder and causing an infection. And the great thing is that because the cranberries don't kill off the bacteria - they simply remove them by causing them to be flushed out - there is less of a chance of this type of E.coli becoming resistant to the effects of the cranberries.
If you are prone to urinary tract infections than its a great idea to eat cranberries or drink the juice every day. It doesn't really help to start drinking and after the infection because by that time the bacteria will already be adhered to the wall in the infection will set in. The effects of a query juice wears off after about 10 hours or you might want to think about eating cranberries in the morning and at night.
You should also be sure that you drink a lot of fluids so that your bladder gets flushed out regularly. Fresh vegetable and fruit juices which are high in vitamin C can also help as they help to boost the immune system which can aid your body in fighting off germs. Drinking caffeinated beverages is not a good idea nor is drinking alcohol.
Also think about including lots of foods rich in vitamin B in your diet such as asparagus, almonds, lean proteins and bananas as these will help in the digestive process and allow your body to more easily convert food to energy which you will need one it's working to get rid of the urinary tract or bladder infection.
