Anyone who has ever suffered any type of skin irritation will love to experience the health benefits of Aloe Vera. I don’t think I need to tell you how irritating it is to have a rash or abrasion on your skin, especially if it is in a place where your clothes can rub against and irritate it. Combine that with everyone and his brother commenting on it and you have a constant reminder which makes it all the more irritating!
Last summer I got a bad case of poison ivy. After exhausting over the counter options as well as homeopathic remedies, I finally saw a doctor. After a shot of steroids, I was instructed to find relief by applying whatever salves seemed to help with the pain. Because the rash was so bad, she informed me that my scars could linger for as much as five months.
As I was relating this to my mom, she gently reminded me of all the great health benefits of Aloe Vera. When we were growing up, she always had an Aloe Vera plant in the house. My grandmother had strong faith in the benefits of the Aloe Vera plant. Extracts from the Aloe Vera Plant is widely used today in creams, lotions, shampoos and conditioners but if you want a more natural remedy, you can simply use the gel from the leaves of the plant. In fact, when my brother was burned, my mother's judicious use of aloe leaves prevented him from forming a scar. He had a really bad burn on his hand, but it quickly healed once she began putting the gel from the plant on it.
After a reminder from my mother regarding the benefits of the aloe vera plant, I bought one from a local nursery. I bought a very large and healthy plant, and was talking about my purchase to a woman in line at the checkout when the nursery owner overheard us. She said to put the inside of banana peels on my legs to draw out the pus and then mix the aloe and the vitamin E and rub it into the skin. Darned if that didn’t work like a champ! Of course, it took a month to totally clear, but relief was immediate and there were no scars after a month!
The health benefits of Aloe Vera go beyond just therapy for skin issues. It can be used for better digestion as well as for healthier hair and skin.
