| If you looking for a healthy
snack to eat instead of chips and cookies you might try delving into the
delicious world of dehydrated
fruit.
You probably already know that natural and raw foods are much more
healthy for you than anything you can get out of a vending machine, but
the packaging of chips and candy bars is so much more convenient,
isn’t it?
However, convenience should not be a consideration when it comes to
your health. You need to figure out a way to have healthy snacks on
hand whenever you get the urge and one way to do that is by dehydrating fruit and vegetables
ahead of time so that you will have them ready whenever you need them.
Pretty much any fruit or vegetable can be dehydrated, which simply
means that all the moisture is taken out of the fruit and vegetable.
Once dehydrated, these foods that would normally go bad quickly can be
stored in an airtight container and stay good for months.
Of course, you can buy dehydrated fruits in the grocery and health food
store, if you’ve ever picked up a package of them
you’ve
probably noticed that they contain sugars and preservatives which are
two of the things you’re trying not to eat. By dehydrating
your
own fruits you can be sure that they contain nothing but that which
nature intended.
If you’re serious about your health and are trying to eat
more
raw foods, then dehydrated fruits and vegetables are a great way to
help your health. You can set aside one day and dehydrate the entire
amount of fruits that you’ll need for a whole month. If they
are
dehydrated properly they will still contain the essential enzymes,
amino acids, vitamins and minerals that the fruit of vegetable has
before it is dehydrated.
There are many different types of food dehydrators most use electricity
to blow warm air around the cut up fruit and vegetables which causes
the dehydration. Some simply have trays and use no electronic
intervention. When selecting a dehydrator, you want to be sure to get
one that will accommodate the amount of food you are going to want to
dehydrate at one time because they can take12 hours depending on the
food you are dehydrating and you probably want to do everything in one
sitting. Also, you want to be sure that the dehydrator will work at
116°F or less to be sure that you preserve the essential
enzymes.
Adding dehydrated fruit to your list of healthy snacks can be a great
way to be sure that you always have something healthy and tasty on hand
to pack away for yourself as well as for your kids.
